(CBS/AP) Barnes & Noble is trying to woo readers with a new gadget - a lighter, slimmer, cheaper version of its e-reader for $139. Available June 10, the device known as the All-New Nook features a 6-inch touch screen and can hold up to 1,000 digital books, showing it is ready compete on pricing with rivals Amazon and Borders.
Barnes & Noble Inc. said Tuesday that the latest Nook lets readers look up words, highlight passages, search and https://www.jzsznukd.online adjust font size by typing on an on-screen keyboard. It says the device weighs 7.5 ounces and is 35 percent lighter than the first Nook. The iPad 2 is nearly three times heavier at 1.3 pounds.
Borders and its Kobo partner are taking preorders for a $130 device. Amazon's cheapest Kindle is $114, but it comes with ads.
The product arrives as electronic books are growing in popularity. Just last week Amazon said has been selling 105 Kindle e-books for every 100 print books. Free Kindle books are excluded from that count and if free books were included, the number would be even higher, the company said.
